SAVE SCARCE FROM DUPAGE COUNTY BOARD CUTS
CALL THE DUPAGE COUNTY BOARD CHAIR DAN CRONIN
630-407-6060
SCARCE has been educating DuPage on recycling since the 1990s (originally named SCRAP…) and has received a significant portion of its funding from DuPage County for over a decade while its mission has greatly expanded. Check out their website for all the ways SCARCE saves DuPage residents, schools, businesses and the county money, but here’s just one example–their RESCUE program returned over $500,000 of items to DuPage teachers to use in 2012 alone.
DuPage has the reserve funds to fund SCARCE for another year, while SCARCE works with the County to revise its budget and funding mechanisms (if deemed necessary). DuPage has 44% of its annual budget in reserve. This is far above any recommended amount (see Civic Federation report on 2012 DuPage County budget). We have the money–let’s stop cuts to services that save us money and reflect our values. DuPage County recently received awards for its environmental programming from the State of IL. Why? Because of programs like SCARCE offers. Let’s not mess with success.
